About Professor Jerram Barrs


Jerram Barrs is the Professor of Christian Studies and Contemporary Culture at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO; he is also the Resident Scholar of the Francis A. Schaeffer Institute.

Prof. Barrs joined the faculty of Covenant Seminary after serving for 18 years with L’Abri Fellowship in England. He also served as Pastor of the International Presbyterian Church.

Jerram has written a number of books, including Being Human (with Ranald Macaulay), The Heart of Evangelism, Through His Eyes: God’s Perspective on Women, Learning Evangelism from Jesus, and The Heart of Prayer. His expertise is in cultural apologetics, evangelism, and prayer. He also teaches classes on pastoral theology, Revelation, and children’s literature.

In addition, Prof. Barrs is a master gardener, loves literature and the arts, and enjoys tennis, squash, and hiking. Jerram has been married to Vicki for more than 40 years, and together they have three sons (all married) and seven grandchildren.

Concerning his teaching and leadership about prayer, Jerram says that his goal is:

“to seek to encourage others with the encouragement and comfort that I myself have received from the Lord’s teaching on prayer, and also from his own practice of prayer.”
